escribir un archivo, añadir si es que existe otra manera a crear en bash

Question

Im tratando de escribir un archivo con el contenido de una variable, pero si el archivo no existe! Crearlo:

Hasta ahora tengo este:

echo "$Logstring" >> $fileLog 

Lo que me falta porque cuando el archivo no existe hay un error. Es una condición si es necesaria?

la escapó "para nombredir son necesarios si la carpeta del archivo tiene espacios en el nombre.
