Generación de PDF con firmas usando Ruby o Ruby on Rails

Estoy trabajando en una aplicación de Rails que usa gambas para generar archivos PDF. Para resumir, queremos poder firmar digitalmente los PDF generados. No estoy seguro por dónde empezar a leer exactamente. Solo quería preguntar si alguien más ha podido lograr esto antes, y de ser así, qué tipo de recursos debería usar para hacerlo.

Sugiero que eche un vistazo a https://github.com/joseicosta/odf-report. Es una joya para generar ODF, pero se puede convertir fácilmente a PDF, además admite plantillas.
