CASE … WHEN NULL nunca coincidirán con cualquier cosa, y CASE NULL siempre coincidirá con el ELSE cláusula (que en su caso vuelve age, i. E. NULL).

Utilice esta:

CASE COALESCE(age, 0) WHEN 0 THEN … ELSE age END
