Tal vez el algoritmo de paginación es incorrecto o la consulta SQL es sin corregir? No he tocado el algoritmo de paginación del código original.

Creo que sus parámetros de consulta son incorrectos, el primer parámetro es rownum <= ?, por lo que debe ser rownum < firstRow + rowCount, mientras que el segundo parámetro es rn >= firstRow

El tutorial que siguió utiliza el LÍMITE MySQL, como puede ver desde aquí MySQL 5.0 Reference Manual (busque LIMIT) los parámetros que el tutorial utilizó son la primera fila y las filas por página. En su consulta, utilice> y < =, luego debe proporcionar el primer resultado y el último.
